Animal sanctuaries, Wildlife Parks, Zoo's - in Cornwall.

 

Whilst Cornwall is not exactly the African Savannah, we do have a number of Animal sanctuaries, Wildlife parks and of course Newquay Zoo so if you are down here, check them all out and live life on the wild side. They are ideal for taking your kiddies to and of course yourselves and along with having a lovely day out, your visit helps these businesses to survive and continue to provide a home for their residents so please be generous and visit them. Most of them have Childrens Animal Encounter areas where your kiddies can get close to the animals and with some of our animal sanctuaries, they can also have a ride on some of the animals as well.

On the exotic birds front you can visit the Screech Owl Sanctuary in St Columb near Newquay, ( the name Screech comes from Mr C Screech who runs it by the way and they have much more than just Owls there, although or course there is nothing wrong with Owls - in fact, they are gorgeous ). Then we have The Cornish Birds of Prey Centre also in St Columb, where you can try falconry and see and enjoy their many different birds or prey and other animals. And there is the Wingz Bird Sanctuary and Animal Gardens in Par which has just about everything.

 

Furry funny and cute.

 

For the lovers of furry animals amongst you, ( and who doesn't love a furry animal ), we have a very diverse range of places for you to visit. Firstly, there is the Monkey Sanctuary in Looe, where you might just recognised some of your ancestors.....then we have the Tamar Valley Donkey Park at Gunnislake which is well worth a visit because lets face it Donkeys are cute and along with them, we also have the Springfields Fun Park and Pony Centre where your little loved one can ride on the pony's ( which are also very cute ) and you can do a lot of other things as well. Now if you do fancy a bit of Africa there is also the Porfell Wildlife Park at Portfell near Liskeard where they have a wide range of residents so in a way, a part of Africa comes to you and then if you want to see some of Cornwall's native wildlife, there is the Tamar Otter and Wildlife Centre where, along with Otters you will also find Fallow and other Deer, Scottish Wildcats, Wallabies, ( now that is an interesting combination ) and many other animals.

 

Its all very Fishy.

 

When it comes to sea life, we also have a few special delights for you. In Padstow you will find the National Lobster Hatchery but we warn you, once you have been there, you may never eat a Lobster again. We normally just see them on a plate, however, when you see them in real life and see their individual characters and their vulnerability, you can't but help fall in love with them. You can also adopt one as well so like we said, they may well change your eating habits forever. You can also see lots of different sea based aquatic animals up close and personal at the Blue Reef Aquarium in Newquay where you will walk in glass tunnels amongst the fish and other sea creatures which is a truly unique experience.If you have ever wondered what its like to be a fish, ( well some people do and even if you don't, your kids will ), if you visit here, you will find out.

 

Lets Seal the deal.

 

And finally, a visit to Cornwall is never complete without visiting the Seal Sanctuary at Gweek, Nr Helston. This sanctuary helps injured and orphaned seals get better and returned to the wild and if you think puppies are cute, wait until you see a baby seal. Keep an eye on your kids though, because when they see them, they will want to bring one home with them.
