We are Cornwall Tourism Magazine. We are a private enterprise and our businesses is promoting Cornwall as an all year round holiday destination and the Cornish tourism industry. Between us we have over 30 years of extensive experience in business marketing in all sectors and we are very good at what we do.

 

Cornwall Tourism Magazine - the raison detre........

 

We formed Cornwall Tourism Magazine in 2007 to promote Cornwall and the Cornish Tourism industry to the outside world. We have a unique county with over 300 miles of coast line, stunning beaches and inland scenery, some of the best restaurants, hotels and attractions in the UK but none of this is really being promoted effectively. When you speak to people about Cornwall, most of them think of surfing; they have no idea about all the other things our county has to offer. Many of them have heard of Rick Stein, but that is only because he markets himself correctly. How many people know about your business?

 

 

 

Why we are promoting Cornwall our tourism industry.

 

In our view the only people who can effectively market Cornwall and our tourism industry are those with a commercial interest in their success. One of the main reasons why the Official Body has failed us so miserably is because they are funded from the public purse. They are under no financial pressure to succeed. They get paid their salaries whether they are successful or not and the senior management is untouchable as they were not appointed by vote. Only people who have been successful in this industry can succeed here and because we are very successful and have a long history of success in the marketing and promotions industry, we are taking up the gauntlet.

 

Why we will be successful.

 

We are serious business people. We work very hard and are always successful in everything we do. We have no fear of failure because failure is just a situation that comes about when you haven't worked everything out. As we constantly analyse and research everything we do, we cover every scenario before we go to market. This enables us to very accurately predict what will happen and what we need to do to make any business venture successful.

 

Although on one level promoting a whole county and its tourism industry is a huge undertaking, the business principals are exactly the same whether you are promoting a small product in a box or a huge area. You identify your customer base, which we have - the whole of the UK. You establish your unique selling point's and how to package them into a strong and powerful marketing vehicles - Cornwall is a USP in its own right but it also has hundreds more inside it - and then you develop a marketing strategy to target your audience, which we have done, and then go out to market using the most effective marketing and communication technologies and methodologies to ensure you get all your messages and sales arguments across.

 

How to sell a county.

 

Success in business is a mixture of vision, process, skill and most important of all, capability. Lots of people in business have the vision but without the capability, they are doomed to failure. When you are selling a whole county and everything that goes with it, you have to deal on a much higher level than you would if you were selling a simple product. You have to look at the psychology of your customers purchasing motivations. Just because Cornwall is unique, it doesn't mean that people will come here by default.

 

Every county can argue that it is unique so what we need to do is establish what would make someone come to Cornwall against going elsewhere and package our pitch in such a way that the customer want to purchase the product. This is where the commercial skill, vision and capabilities aspects come into play. You can never make assumptions in business because you are just as likely to make the wrong one. You need factual evidence and this comes from market research, test marketing programs that generate accurate information and data and a thorough understanding of the business development process and what you need to achieve to get to the end result.
